Will Harvey Milk Day Be Vetoed?
An act to amend Section 37222 of the Education Code, and to add Section 6721 to the Government Code, relating to Harvey Milk Day.Wow, I knew the ground work for celebrating Harvey Milk in public education lies in SB 572 but I had no idea it would be so direct. What exactly is 37222 of the Education Code?
(a) The following days in each year are designated and set
apart as days having special significance:
(1) The second Wednesday in May as the Day of the Teacher.
(2) April 21 of each year as John Muir Day.
(3) April 6 of each year as California Poppy Day.The celebration and education of gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk will be added
to May 22.
Continuing on in 37222:(b) On each of the days designated in subdivision (a), all publicI can only imagine what agenda and curriculum will be pushed for Harvey Milk Day:
schools and educational institutions are encouraged to observe those
days and to conduct suitable commemorative exercises as follows:
(1) On the Day of the Teacher, exercises commemorating and
directing attention to teachers and the teaching profession.
(2) On John Muir Day, exercises stressing the importance that an
ecologically sound natural environment plays in the quality of life
for all of us, and emphasizing John Muir's significant contributions
to the fostering of that awareness and the indelible mark he left on
the State of California.
(3) On California Poppy Day, exercises honoring the California
Poppy, including instruction about native plants, particularly the
California Poppy, and the economic and aesthetic value of
wildflowers; promoting responsible behavior toward our natural
resources and a spirit of protection toward them; and emphasizing the
value of natural resources and conservation of natural resources.Under SB 572, schoolchildren could perform mock gay weddings, haveOh, and doesn't it just give you warm fuzzies that this is all at the expense of tax
cross-dressing contests, and have gay-pride parades right on campus.
Why? Because ‘Harvey Milk Gay Day’ pressures schools to make children
honor and support anything and everything that Milk believed in. The
sky is the limit. And there’s no parental consent in the bill.” Randy Thomasson.
paying California citizens:
Governor, veto the bill.(c) It is the intent of the Legislature that the exercises
encouraged in this section be integrated into the regular school
program, and be conducted by the school or institution within the
amount otherwise budgeted for educational programs.

The Family: 2 Different Proclamations
Whether children are raised by two parents, a single parent, grandparents, a same-sex couple, or a guardian, families encourage us to do our best and enable us to accomplish great things. While this may be true he fails to recognize the family unit wherein children flourish: a home with a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. May I remind us and the President of the United States of the beautiful declaration "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" from the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, given on September 23, 1995:
We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.
The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.
We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.
Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.
The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.
We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.
We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.
I know God leads us in these days just as He did long ago. He loves us and has provided the answers to all of life's questions because He cares so perfectly for us. President Thomas S. Monson is His mouthpiece and through our own revelation we can receive personal confirmation that God's word given by our Prophet is true. This weekend is the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where we gather as a church to listen to our Prophet and other church leaders. If you would like to learn more about our Heavenly Father's plan for us I want to invite you to watch a session or two. It begins on Saturday morning at 10am-12pm (MT), again from 2-4pm followed by sessions on Sunday: 10-12pm & 2-4pm.
California Schools to Show Videos Made by "Best in LGBT Media" Group
"One film features a boy "coming out" by wearing his mother's bikini. Another film incorporates Native American spiritualism to cast LGBT (lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender) persons as "two-spirit" people...The films are accompanied by a curriculum guide and action guide. Among other things, the guides encourage students to question whether religious and cultural celebrations, such as Jewish bar mitzvahs, wrongly discourage homosexual and transgender lifestyles". California schools are miserably failing our children- you'd think they would focus on teaching core English, math & science curriculum. Or not.

Maine Marriage: Yes on 1
Op-Ed
by Pastor Bob Emrich
I don’t know anyone who looks across acres of clear-cut land and calls it
tree equality. That makes as much sense as looking at the extreme changes to
Maine’s marriage law approved recently by Gov. Baldacci and calling it
marriage equality.
Look at the facts and decide for yourself. Let’s start by comparing Maine’s
marriage law before and after the change.
The State of Maine held the historic definition of marriage in highest
regard throughout Maine law. Maine law told us why “traditional monogamous
marriage” was well worth State government protection and promotion. Maine
law said, “The union of one man and one woman joined in traditional
monogamous marriage is of inestimable value to society..;” The word
“inestimable” means too valuable to be measured or fully appreciated.
Maine’s marriage law said: “..the State has a compelling interest to nurture
and promote the unique institution of traditional monogamous marriage in the
support of harmonious families and the physical and mental health of
children;”
That part of the law is full of wonderful, important words. “Compelling”
means the State’s interest in historic marriage cannot be refuted. “Nurture”
means to cherish, to encourage the growth of. To “promote” means to support.
“Unique” means the only one of its kind. An “institution” is a
well-established and familiar custom.
That paragraph of Maine’s marriage law ends with, “...and that the State has
the compelling interest in promoting the moral values inherent in
traditional monogamous marriage.”
Finally, the whole purpose of Maine’s marriage law was, “To encourage the
traditional monogamous family unit as the basic building block of our
society, the foundation of harmonious and enriching family life;”
Maine legislators and the Governor took every bit of the marriage law I have
just outlined for you, clear-cut it, and threw it out as worthless garbage.
All that language and, more important, the meaning behind the words, is
gone.
It was cut first by a majority of the Maine Legislature who said societies
were wrong for thousands of years in valuing “traditional monogamous
marriage” as “the basic building block of society.” They came up with their
new definition of marriage, which Governor Baldacci signed it into law. It
starts with: “Marriage is the legally recognized union of 2 people.”
Baldacci’s new marriage law then redefines all of the historic terms we
associate with marriage: Widows aren’t just women. Neither are wives and
brides. Husbands, grooms, and widowers aren’t just men. In fact, the
Governor’s new marriage law says: “Gender-specific terms relating to the
marital relationship or familial relationships, including, but not limited
to, ‘spouse,’ ‘family,’ ‘marriage,’ ‘immediate family,’ ‘dependent,’ ‘next
of kin,’ ‘bride,’ ‘groom,’ ‘husband,’ ‘wife,’ ‘widow’ and ‘widower,’ must be
construed to be gender-neutral for all purposes throughout the law, whether
in the context of statute, administrative or court rule, policy, common law
or any other source of civil law.”
There you have it. It is a belief among those of us supporting a Peoples
Veto of this law on the November 3, 2009 ballot that Mainers deserve a full
and honest debate about this radical law and its impact on society
short-term, mid-term, and long-term. The one public hearing on this law, in
Augusta, on a work day was a very bad call by the legislators involved.
Mainers must have the opportunity to decide if adopting a law redefining
historic marriage as gender-free, instead of Maine law saying “..the State
has a compelling interest to nurture and promote the unique institution of
traditional monogamous marriage in the support of harmonious families and
the physical and mental health of children,” is what they want for
themselves, their children and grandchildren.

Justice Department defends DOMA; Obama still wants to repeal it
"Justice Department lawyers filed new papers Monday seeking to throw out a lawsuit brought by a gay couple challenging the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA... Obama said he plans to work with Congress to repeal the law, and said his administration 'will continue to examine and implement measures that will help extend rights and benefits' to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender couples under existing law."Read entire article here.
